Summer can calculate checksums for entire directories and save the checksums in a file. By opening the checksum file with Summer, you can verify if any files are modified or corrupted.

Features

• Scalable – Calculate checksums for millions of files without any UI lag. Option to pause and resume batch operations.
• Fast – Uses multiple threads to calculate checksums in parallel
• Supports standard hashing algorithms – MD5, SHA1, SHA2 (224, 256, 384, 512)
• System integration – Open and verify checksum files when opened in file manager (*.md5, *.sha2, etc).
• Gtk4 app is available for Ubuntu 24.04 and later releases.

Use cases:

• Verify the integrity of downloaded files: Check if a downloaded file is corrupted or complete by comparing the checksum.
• Verify files on removable storage: Verify if the files stored on a removable hard disk, USB drive, or CD-DVD are intact or damaged due to bitrot or failing media.
• Calculate checksum for publishing: Calculate and share the MD5 or SHA2 checksum of files that you publish on your website or share with friends.
• Detect malware: Check if any malware has modified files on your system by verifying checksums of system files.

Limitations

• Summer requires Debian 12 (Bookworm) or Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) at the minimum due to dependency on GTK4 and Adwaita libraries.
• This app will not run on older releases of Debian and Ubuntu.

• The app is licensed under the terms of this EULA. This standard EULA allows you to use the app but does not allow redistribution and reselling.
• The personal license is per user rather than per machine. You are welcome to use it on any number of machines where you are the primary user, including at work.
• Using this app in a business environment requires as many licenses as the number of people using it.
• Your license will be sent to the email address provided by the user on the checkout page. Please provide a reliable email address.

This app is meant for Linux distributions based on Debian and Ubuntu.

  • Linux Mint 22 and later releases. Mint 21 and older releases are not supported.

  • Older releases of Ubuntu are not supported

  • MX Linux 23, LMDE 6, and others
• Fedora
  
  • Fedora 39 to 41 and newer releases
  • Fedora Silverblue and rpm-ostree distributions are not supported

Native packages and repositories are available for all supported Linux distributions. Installation is as simple as running a one-line command.
